DESIGNER I: (Salary Range - $23.90-$33.42)

Entry level design position that provides new and existing commercial, industrial, residential, and internal customers with distribution design project management for the least complex areas of design. The responsibility of this position is to function as the primary contact for future and existing customers by providing cost effective designs that balance customer needs in accordance with Xcel Energy's standards and administrative guidelines. May provide work clarification for construction personnel and act as the liaison between the construction department and customers. May be expected to assist as needed after normal business hours during emergency situations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from initial customer contact through post project analysis. Establish and manage the construction work plan in order to meet the customers schedule and design requirements as well as financial and budgetary requirements.
  • Design safe operating facilities for new and existing customers according to Xcel Energy construction standards and interpret administrative instructions for consistent and cost-effective designs. Provide distribution design project management for the least complex areas of design. Responsible for the generation of additional revenue through contracts with new business or existing customers
  • Obtain permits and easements for facilities in accordance with city ordinances, state, federal, and county agencies. Execute contracts and agreements in compliance with administrative instructions and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the Company with government officials, contractors, city agencies, vendors, architects, and engineers to provide service to customers.


Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED. Min. of Assoc. Degree in one of the following fields of study: drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS, other related field of study. In lieu of an Assoc. Degree: a combination of education and experience in design/drafting, construction, project management, or electronics providing equivalent knowledge. Working knowledge of one or more of the following: GIS, design software, work management programs, and related systems desirable. Knowledge of construction standards, materials, and technical codes is preferred. Knowledge of and ability to use Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc.) Self-starter, able to work with minimum supervision. Driver's License may be required.

DESIGNER II: (Salary Range $27.50-38.49)

Summary
This is an intermediate level design position that provides new and existing commercial, industrial, residential, and internal customers with distribution design project management for most areas of design. The responsibility of this position is to function as the primary contact for future and existing customers by providing cost effective designs that balance customers’ needs in accordance with Xcel Delivery Services standards and administrative guidelines. Provide work clarification for construction personnel and act as the liaison between the construction department and customers. This position has a direct impact on safety, system operation, financial results, reliability, and customer satisfaction. May be expected to assist as needed after normal business hours during emergency situations.

Responsible for the generation of additional company revenue through contacts with new business or existing customers.

f) Demonstrate ability to set direction, influence others and build teamwork across work groups and areas to achieve department and Company goals.

Required

  • Two year technical degree and five years experience in distribution design, construction, project management, or related field experience; or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
  • Working knowledge of GIS, ED/SW, ServConn, PassPort, MS Office and related systems
  • Knowledge of construction standards, materials, and technical codes
  • Highly effective communication and innovative problem solving skills
  • Self starter, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to successfully complete established Skill-Based Training Program
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and provide own vehicle
  • May be drug tested randomly as prescribed by the Department of Transportation

SENIOR DESIGNER: (Salary Range $31.60-44.26)

Summary
This is an upper level design position that provides new and existing commercial, industrial, residential, and internal customers with distribution design project management for all areas of design, including the most complex. The responsibility of this position is to function as the primary contact for future and existing customers by providing cost effective designs that balance customers’ needs in accordance with Xcel standards and administrative guidelines. Provide work clarification, and direction when required, for construction personnel and act as the liaison between the construction department and customers. Assist with mentoring and training of Designers and provide backup leadership to the Manager–Design. This position is expected to be capable of both electric and gas distribution design, or expert level distribution design capability in electric or gas. Travel and overnight stays may be required throughout the service territory. This position has a direct impact on safety, system operation, financial results, reliability, and customer satisfaction. May be expected to assist as needed after normal business hours during emergency situations.

Principal Designer (Salary Range $36.40-$50.92)

  • High School Diploma or GED. Min. of Assoc. Degree in one of the following fields of study: drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS, other related field of study or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
  • In lieu of an Assoc. Degree: Minimum of nine years of design lead experience or equivalent job-related experience in one of the following: design, construction, or electronics providing equivalent experience and knowledge - preferably three years as an Xcel Energy Senior Designer.
  • Subject matter expert in their design discipline: Expert knowledge of construction standards, design standards, materials, technical codes, and engineering design calculations necessary to develop required construction drawings.
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce complex engineering drawings in a 2D and 3D environment.
  • Expert in the use of various computerized design/drafting software applications according to project requirements.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is required.
  • Able to perform field site walkdowns independently.
  • Ability for Construction crew supervision and coordination with field personnel, contractors, and vendors.
  • Expert in Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access).
  • Highly effective communication and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver license.
