This position will be based in our Administrative & Fiscal Services (AFS) Division. In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for high level financial management and accounting work for our agency of approximately 1,700 employees over 50 locations throughout the State of Minnesota. The incumbent must possess extensive accounting and technical system knowledge including Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT), Statewide Employee Management (SEMA4), and the Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) to ensure that Federal, State, and other funds used for invoices, payments, audits are accurate, transactions processed are effectively and timely reconciled. In addition, this position will aid in the development and implementation of procedures and policies, prepare complex financial reports, and provide advice and consultation to agency management in the technical areas of expertise.

This position is telework eligible and is occasionally required to be on-site at the office. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment and may telework from anywhere in Minnesota or a neighboring state. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years* of professional experience in accounting, financial management, or grants management.

*Bachelor's degree in accounting, financial management, grant management, business, or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience; master's degree substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD substitutes for twenty-four (24) months of experience.

Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:

  • Experience applying accounting principles (GAAP) and practices sufficient in creation of various financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex fiscal reports and records for adherence and conformance to federal laws, state statutes, and department policies.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel, including use of pivot tables and advances formulas such as VLOOKUP or similar functions.
  • Communication skills that demonstrate the ability for clear and persuasive presentations to both internal and external audiences, including written and verbal skills to train other staff, answer questions, and provide accounting guidance.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and successfully manage competing priorities.
