Serve as leader and expert relating to financial business planning and operations for Accounts Payable - Administrative and Client Accounting business units in the Administrative and Financial Services (AFS) division, which provides responsible and high-level financial management and accounting work across the agency.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising and managing assigned employees and providing leadership, direction, and purpose to the team
  • Formulating and implementing fiscal and accounting policies and procedures
  • Preparing financial reports and analysis involving complex accounting methods and principles as a basis for decision-making by senior and executive leadership
  • Overseeing the business expense reimbursement process including domestic and international employee and non-employee business expense reimbursement functions and employee relocation expenses
  • Ensuring that administrative and client vendor payments are processed timely and accurately in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures
  • Providing technical advice, consultation, assistance, and guidance to agency management in the technical areas of expertise for improvement of quality, time, and cost efficiencies

This position is telework eligible and is occasionally required to be on-site at the St. Paul office. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment and may telework from anywhere in Minnesota or a neighboring state. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience* in accounting, financial management, or grants management

*Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience; master’s degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience

Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:

  • Experience as a supervisor, team lead, or project lead
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to client accounting functions
  • Experience following policies and procedures with regard to purchasing cards, processing payments, etc.
  • Experience collaborating and maintaining working relationships with staff and clients
  • Skill in communication sufficient to interact with leadership, department managers, program areas, federal officials, and state agency representatives
  • Skill in attention to detail sufficient to ensure accuracy and identify errors
