About the Role:
The Director, Media Relations and Strategic Communications is responsible for managing and overseeing media relations and strategic communications for the Eleventh Federal Reserve District. Serves as trusted advisor on strategic communications issues to Bank president, senior management and business areas throughout the District. Works proactively with business lines as a strategic partner to develop and implement integrated communications strategies. Along with the Vice President of Communications, this position serves as a public spokesperson for the Bank and provides direct strategic communications and media relations support to the Bank President.
About the Communications Department:
The Dallas Fed’s communications team actively and strategically employs communications to advance the Bank’s strategy and priorities. It comprises employee, public, and executive communications as well as media relations. The team aligns and integrates the Bank’s public-facing communications on policy, research, banking, and community issues while ensuring employees are informed and engaged in our work and the Bank’s mission.
You Will:
- Work proactively with business lines as a strategic partner to develop and implement integrated communications strategies that enhance and protect the Bank’s reputation.
- Serve as a public spokesperson for the Bank along with the Vice President of Communications.
- Provide day-to-day oversight of staff in the function and provide daily direction for communications activities, coordinating workflow with the rest of the Communications team.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on strategic communications issues to the Bank President, senior management, and business areas throughout the District.
- Build constructive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, importantly members of the regional and national media.
- Drive appropriate coverage of the Dallas Fed and policy activity in local and national media and other channels through proactive media relationship management.
- Manage complex strategic communications projects and initiatives, often in collaboration with other teams or departments.
- Develop and provide input into a range of strategic communications in collaboration with the Bank’s business lines.
- Stay abreast of current trends and best practices and initiate innovations in strategic communications practices.
You Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, public policy, English or related field is required. Graduate degree preferred. Relevant, sustained experience and a proven track record in the field can be substituted for a graduate degree.
- 10+ years of experience in either journalism, strategic communications. corporate communications, or media relations,
- Proven ability developing and implementing integrated strategic communications plans that enhance an organization’s reputation.
- Proven track record of strategic communications initiatives that have amplified an organization’s thought leadership.
- Deep interest in public service and commitment to the mission of the Federal Reserve System.
- Economic expertise and background in economic or financial policy.
- Demonstrated experience effectively leading media or digital communications teams and collaborating constructively with project teams.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and work under deadline pressures.
- Proven ability to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to effectively engage with a variety of departments and at different levels in the organization.
- Federal Reserve experience preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and a wide variety of external constituents.
- Strategic thinking, program and project management skills, , poise, and a high degree of professionalism.
- Excellent attention to detail, with knowledge of grammar, style, and editing best practices.
- Demonstrated experience managing and safeguarding against reputational risks.
- Ability to lead with integrity, demonstrating honesty and respect.
Demonstrated experience with the following:
- Working in or with top-tier national or international media outlets.
- Collaborating across all levels of the organization.
- Directing and delivering time-sensitive communications.
- Managing confidential or embargoed information.
- Crisis management.
- Amplifying the policy influence or thought leadership of an organization.

This role allows for the employee to work in a hybrid manner with some work conducted onsite at the Federal Reserve work location and some work conducted remotely. Specific schedule details will be discussed during the recruitment process.
