About the Opportunity

The Federal Reserve is looking for an experienced Search Engineer to help the Digital Platform Team create advanced search capabilities - such as NLP, AI, and text analysis. You will be curious to know how a user would ask for data and present it to the end user in a digestible and secure manner. In addition, you will have the potential to change how Federal Reserve employees find data and discover knowledge. There are many new emerging technologies in this space that require solving complex problems quickly and effectively. You will communicate how a complicated systems work to stakeholders and will need to confidently build on top of existing standards where security is paramount.

The Federal Reserve practices Agile. The team works in 2-week iterations and works together to collaborate on solutions with a delivery mindset (progress over process).

What You Will Do:

  • 5 years of experience working on Search solutions.

  • Experience working on a full stack with a heavy focus on API development and data intake.

  • Participate in On-Call rotation

  • Agile tasks: story writing, backlog grooming, point sizing

  • Troubleshoot technical issues, perform root cause analysis and take appropriate action to remediate issues

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of search concepts: query parsing, indexing pipelines, relevancy ranking, tokenization.

  • Solr or another Enterprise Search solution (e.g., OpenSearch, Elastic Search, etc.)

  • AWS Cloud experience

  • Excellent and proven problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Able to effectively work alone or as part of a team

  • Java Development experience: JDK 11+, understanding of the JVM, garbage collection techniques

  • Basic template framework (Thyme, Mustache, etc.)

  • Spring boot development (or similar such as Micronaut or Quarkus)

  • Automated Testing experience

  • Automated build experience

  • Understanding of database technologies: RDBMS and NoSQL

  • Data modeling

  • Exposure to developing a data intake workflow

  • Web security standards (SSL certificate management, authentication protocols, encryption)

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of security trimming would be a plus

  • Understanding or certification with government or classified data security standards

  • LucidWorks Fusion experience would be a plus

  • Data extraction experience a plus (such as SharePoint, Confluence, ServiceNow, Jira)

  • Terraform or similar experience would be a plus

  • Security scanning tools such as SonarCube

  • CICD Pipeline technologies (Gitlab CICD, Jenkins, Ansible, or similar)

  • Selenium / automated front-end testing

  • The hiring range is $90,200 – $123,970 LIR annually.

  • For candidates outside Richmond, VA, listed hiring and salary ranges may be adjusted based on your geographic location.
