What we do:

The Supervision Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (FRBNY) supervises banks in the Second District. The objectives of supervision are to:

  • Evaluate and promote the overall safety and soundness of supervised institutions

  • Ensure supervised institutions’ compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including consumer protection

  • Facilitate the stability of the financial system of the United States

  • Support the growth and stability of the U.S. economy

Supervision is carried out through a combination of methods, including on-site and off-site examinations involving staff dedicated to the supervision of an individual firm and other professionals focused on analytical, policy and risk matters. Supervision is coordinated with other US agencies.

The Consumer Compliance function is responsible for supervisory oversight of consumer protection laws across all portfolios (small, mid-range and large institutions) and evaluates consumer compliance activities at Federal Reserve-supervised financial institutions within the Second District, including both bank holding companies and state member banks. This responsibility encompasses an understanding of and assessment of each firm’s and/or bank’s consumer protection compliance management systems, as well as compliance with specific consumer protection laws and regulations at state member banks, including Fair Lending laws, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), and Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices.

Your role as the Consumer Compliance Supervising Examiner:

As a Consumer Compliance Supervising Examiner, you will be responsible for evaluating consumer complaints that have been submitted to Federal Reserve System regarding second district institutions. Activities include maintaining day to day activities related to complaint management program, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and conducting quarterly trend analysis and reporting.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Work independently and also coordinate with supervisory teams to conduct the investigation of consumer complaints for supervised institutions.

  • Analyze and fully understand issues presented by the complainant, identify any necessary follow-up with the complainant and supervised institution, and evaluate compliance with various laws and regulations.

  • Possess an understanding of a variety of consumer banking laws and regulations - including staying abreast of regulatory developments, emerging issues, and compliance issues that could have a significant impact on consumers.

  • Ensure that workpapers and reports reflect complete, detailed and accurate investigations and are conducted in accordance with Reserve Bank standards.

  • Provide leadership on Federal Reserve System projects with an ability to represent the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong experience consumer protection and/or complaint management, with excellent organizational skills and judgment. Consumer Compliance experience and commission preferred.

  • Exceptional critical thinking skills with the ability to assimilate new information, manage multiple tasks and assess compliance risks.

  • Proven team player with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships to support an inclusive environment with examination teams.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to clearly and succinctly synthesize information and articulate supervisory concerns, as well as key messages to various stakeholders.

  • Flexibility to engage in additional responsibilities, work processes, and assignments

Salary Range: $155400 -$229300 / year
