The Richmond Fed is now hiring for our 2024 Ability Beyond the Label (ABLe) Internship Program. The Internship Program provides outstanding candidates with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (including but not limited to autism) with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a unique institution.

This internship is within Richmond Cash Services. Through project work assignments and professional development activities, interns are provided with an extensive understanding of the work of the Federal Reserve. The internship will last 8-12 weeks and at completion, interns may be considered for permanent employment with the Bank. All interns will be supported by employment support services (job coaching) throughout the course of employment with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.

What You Will Do:

  • Contributes to process improvement and solution discussions, may present outcomes to management.

  • May participate in cross-functional team initiatives, process improvement, and/or technology-based projects.

  • Escalates non-routine or unusual problems to higher-level support staff as appropriate.

  • With assistance, performs compliance reviews of team packets, queries, and video surveillance to ensure alignment with policies and procedures.

  • Works with Richmond Cash and Compliance teams to identify, communicate and mitigate process exceptions.

  • Collects, organizes, and scans team paperwork into an electronic document repository system with accuracy and efficiency.

  • Coordinates and organizes positioning of currency busses in the vault with a goal of optimizing workflow.

  • Prepares currency order manifests in collaboration with administration team.

  • Collaborates with Paying team supervisor to prepare and stage outgoing currency shipments.

Qualifications:

  • Communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate via email and in virtual meetings.

  • Self-starter with initiative to independently work on daily activities and request help when needed.

  • Strong organizational skills, planning, and execution, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient computer skills in programs including, but not limited to Word, Excel, SharePoint, and other Microsoft programs.

  • Must be comfortable working in a hybrid environment and using virtual meeting tools to collaborate with staff who are based out of the branch offices (Baltimore, MD and Charlotte, NC)

  • Must have an active/open case with the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services.

  • Must participate or be willing to participate in employment support services (job coaching) throughout the course of employment with the Federal Reserve Bank.

Other Requirements and Considerations:

  • 16-24 hours a week.

  • Candidate must be able to lift 30 pounds.

  • Candidate must wear steel-toed shoes for safety when working on the cash operations floor

  • Selected candidate is subject to special background check procedures.

  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident status is required.

  • The hourly rate for summer interns is $21.50/hour.
