Supports the Federal Reserve`s mission of financial system stability. An individual in this position is as an integral member of the Capital Risk team. Serves as an examiner, and at times, as examiner-in- charge or in-charge lead risk specialist, for supervisory activities at Large Bank Holding Companies and their subsidiaries. Also, participates on national horizontal reviews. Assignments include execution of supervisory reviews and continuous monitoring activities focused on the effectiveness of risk identification, risk management and governance practices for credit risk, and/or model risk management and/or capital risk. Ensures supervised institutions are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, guidance, and policy statements. Supports gathering of cross firm and banking industry/system risks and developments to understand and build perspectives on micro (institution -specific), horizontal (industry wide/peer) and macro (financial system supervision) risks and vulnerabilities. Participates on projects, outreach, and training. Note: Individuals in this role either have an examiner commission or are in the process of obtaining a commission.

General Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to supervisory activities related to Credit, Model Risk Management, and Capital risk in district and/or across the system

  • Participates on national/horizontal reviews of large complex financial institutions

  • Monitors, evaluates, and understands conditions, trends, and risks at the institution specific level, cross-firm, and the broader financial system in conjunction with regulatory guidelines

  • Works effectively with representatives of other Regulatory Agencies and presents findings of joint examinations/inspections in clear concise manner

  • Works effectively and with minimal supervision prioritizing at times overlapping assignments and deliverables

  • Identifies weaknesses and prepares and communicates all supervisory findings to Reserve Bank management, Federal Reserve System management, and bank senior management and boards of directors

  • Assesses risks, internal controls, and compliance with laws and regulations. Completes assignments in alignment with departmental and System standards with minimal oversight

  • Maintains ongoing awareness of issues and oversees findings from specialty or technical risk areas. Demonstrates ability to apply such understanding and incorporate into overall supervisory conclusions and ratings

  • Participates in training programs as prescribed

  • Participates or leads efforts to advance Reserve Bank or System strategic initiatives

  • Provides coaching and mentoring and performance feedback to other examiners

  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or related field

  • Examiner I: 5+ years of related work experience required

  • Examiner II: 7+ years of related work experience required

  • Commissioned Examiner of the Federal Reserve System preferred

  • Understanding of credit risk, forecasting methods, and banking in general preferred

  • Professional designations such as CPA, CFA, etc. a plus

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of regulations, procedures, and practices of bank examination

  • Strong understanding of banking, including balance sheet management, credit risk, and forecasting methodologies

  • Strong organizational and time management – assignments may overlap each other.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Strong presentation

  • Strong specialized operational/technical skills in bank examination

  • Strong public speaking

  • Strong strategic thinking/planning

Physical Demands and General Working Conditions

Traditional office environment: Employees typically sit most of the day, work with a computer and may answer/respond to phone calls. Physical movement consists of walking for meetings, breaks, etc. Ability to lift items weighing approximately 20 pounds on a limited basis is required. Employees may be required to travel by car/air.
