Arctic Wolf, with its unicorn valuation, is the leader in security operations in an exciting and fast-growing industry—cybersecurity. We have won countless awards for our excellence in security operations and remain dedicated to providing an industry-leading customer and employee experience.

Our mission is simple: End Cyber Risk. We’re looking for a Lead Reliability Developer to be part of making that happen.

About the Role

We are looking for a Lead Reliability Developer to join our SRE team. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills along with experience working in an SRE team. If you want the opportunity to help scale and engineer reliability for cybersecurity services, this is the job for you.

Our systems run globally and scale with continued exponential growth. Security is what we do and reliability is what we need in order to provide the best possible Security Operations for our customers. We live and breathe Infrastructure-as-Code and are working hard to build a world class CI/CD pipeline. The SRE team expects you to be a strong technical contributor drawing upon a mix of software development and operations experience.

Working with the SRE manager, the lead developer will be responsible for providing the team with technical direction to deliver high value, performant software solutions. The lead developer will provide technical guidance and direction to a team of developers through the design, implementation, and automated/integration testing of our software. They will also provide guidance on best practices for running, monitoring, and maintaining our system.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead development of SRE processes and best practices

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable software with a focus on security and reliability

  • Work with the Platform Engineering teams to continue to develop the continuous delivery and observability systems

  • Collaborate with the R&D product teams in developing reliable, scalable, observable systems

  • Triage and debug production alerts, and participate in blameless postmortems

  • Reduce toil by automating everything

  • Provide mentoring to team members

We value a culture of sharing, so every team has the opportunity to share their work with the entire department during our monthly R&D demos. Once a year we hold a department-wide Hackathon, teaming up across all R&D teams over four days to collaborate and build cool ideas outside the normal project scope. While innovation is the focus, some of these ideas do make it into our products.

About You

You should have extensive work experience in the following areas:

  • Working in an SRE/Release Engineering team to reducing toil for R&D teams and managing large-scale services

  • Championing adoption and usage of SLOs and error budgets

  • Software development experience with Go and/or Python

  • AWS technologies including CloudFormation, EKS, EventBridge, RDS PostgreSQL, S3, and SQS

  • Company wide communication and rollout of services for internal usage; we want individuals who take ownership and deliver shared services to other R&D teams

  • Championing, implementing, and using SLOs, SLIs, SLAs and error budgets

  • Configuring monitoring and visualization systems (Prometheus, CloudWatch, Grafana, etc)

  • Ubuntu or other Linux operating system variants

In addition, you have proven leadership experience from previous projects, regardless of title held. You have the ability to perform programming tasks and large engineering projects with independence and expertise. You will be responsible for guiding and mentoring other staff members and will regularly lead technical projects. You have a high level of mastery over software development best practices and building reusable design patterns.

You have a history of delivering successful projects, as well as some lessons learned from failures. Even if you haven’t worked with all of our specific technologies, you bring a diverse knowledge base that you use to help the team solve complex technical problems. You’ll receive all the security training you need during our onboarding process and through additional training on the job.

Interview Process

The interview process is approximately as follows:

  • Phone pre-screening: A recruiter contacts you to briefly discuss your work history and provide an overview of Arctic Wolf. Approximately 30 minutes.

  • Technical assessment: A recruiter sends you a link to a straightforward technical assessment that is relevant to the role you are applying for. Approximately 1.5 hours.

  • Technical interview: A pair of team members conduct an interview over Zoom that will be split into two parts. The first part of the interview will focus on abstract system design. The second part will be a discussion on your potential role and discuss your knowledge, judgement, and experience as it relates to our technical requirements. Approximately 2 hours.
