About The Role

We are seeking a Team Lead to join our Detect & Protect engineering organization that is the driving force behind our Managed Detection & Response (MDR) technologies which power security related telemetry collection and detection capabilities for our core Arctic Wolf Security Operations Service.

In this role, you will have senior level hands-on development responsibilities and be key contributor to the technical vision for the next generation MDR Services at Arctic Wolf. This includes the evolution of our on-premises endpoint agent & sensor technologies, all related SaaS backend platform services, and integration into the core Arctic Wolf Security Operations Platform.

At Arctic Wolf, being a Team Lead is also very much a passionate change-agent leadership role. As such this role will require you to:

  • Work directly with engineering, architecture, and product management leadership in a consultative role. Focused on big rock planning & challenges as we evolve the next generation of MDR security services.

  • Assume a “technical product owner” level role as needed to frame out technical requirements and execution across multiple scrum teams.

  • Contribute to core development with a “player-coach mindset”. Providing broader technical guidance as needed through the design, implementation, testing, & deployment of our services.

Key Responsibilities


To succeed in this role, key responsibilities include:

  • Embracing the technical leadership role and becoming a key contributor on the MDR Services Team! Be empowered to make key decisions that drive the technical direction of the product or platform.

  • Collaborating with product management, product owners, and leads to frame out the scope and sizing of the top-level engineering backlog that will enable us to deliver on the product roadmap.

  • Act as a mentor to automation engineering team members. Schedule regular 1x1s to encourage collaboration, discuss key projects, and assist in removing roadblocks.

  • Driving software development execution in strategic areas. Formulating approaches, leading design, and guiding the team to deliver.

  • Designing & developing with a relentless platform and framework mindset. Enabling a componentized and modular architecture across both the client side and backend platform.

  • Solving challenging technical challenges as they arise. This could relate to re-architecture, security, parallel and distributed services, data architecture, scale-out design, or front end plaformization efforts.

  • Being hands on and leading from the front. Willing to independently dive into code to resolve issues and perform proof of concept & rapid prototyping work.

  • Contributing to the growth and mentorship of other team members as required.

  • Defining & implementing unit/integration test automation in lock step with new feature development.

Minimum Requirements

An ideal candidate for this role should meet these minimum requirements:

  • MS/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline

  • 7+ years relevant industry experience in software development

  • 3+ years in hands-on technical leadership software development roles

  • 3+ years of Agile software development experience

  • Experience interfacing directly with R&D leadership and product management on requirements definition.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Qualifications

An ideal candidate for this role should have many of these qualifications:

  • Advanced to expert level experience in front end development. With direct experience in Angular, React, or similar languages.

  • Solid backend experience in one or more of these languages: Golang, Python, Typescript or similar languages.

  • Experience with cloud-native software application deployment architectures

  • Fundamental understanding of scale-out architectures

  • Experience integrating backend and client-side services.

  • Experience creating RESTful APIs

  • Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Experience technically managing 3-4 developers

  • Experience delivering core features on scrum teams ranging in size of 5-10 people

  • Experience providing technical oversight & guidance over multiple scrum teams on complex projects

Desired Qualifications

A highly desirable candidate for this role may have one or more of these qualifications:

  • Experience developing commercial software in the security market segment.

  • Software development experience on products or services is these product security markets.

    • EPP: Endpoint Protection Platform

    • EDR: Endpoint Detection & Response

    • XDR: Extended Detection & Response

    • MDR: Managed Detection & Response

  • Experience developing SaaS based applications on Amazon Web Services(AWS)

  • Experience with Harness, Docker, Kubernetes, Nomad. Consul, Prometheus, or Grafana

  • Experience with message broker solutions such as Amazon SQS or Kafka

  • Data architecture & design experience with SQL and NoSQL technologies such as Postgres & Redis

  • Delivering software within a DevSecOps framework

Interview Process

1. Initial Candidate Pre-Screening: A recruiter will contact you to briefly discuss your work history and provide an overview of Arctic Wolf. Approximately 30 minutes.

2. Opening Engineering Interview: An R&D executive or manager will connect to provide more detail context on the organization, team, role, and position. You will share your project and qualifications as it relates to the role you are applying for. Approximately 45 minutes.

3. Deeper Engineering Interviews: One or more interviews will be scheduled team members or key engineering stakeholders this position would interface with. Be prepared to collaborate on a technical problem and talk more about past projects and your career goals. Approximately 60-90 minutes

4. Final Engineering Interview: Will be scheduled as required with an R&D executive or manager. Objective is to discuss

Culture & Training

We value an open & transparent engineering culture. Each team has the opportunity to share their work & progress on sprint boundaries during a release cycle and also at R&D department wide meetings. We also hold team & company wide Hackathon events, teaming up across all R&D teams over four days to collaborate and build cool ideas outside the normal project scope. While innovation is the focus, some of these ideas do make it into our products.

You will also receive all the extensive security training you need during our onboarding process to succeed at Arctic Wolf. You can also expect equally extensive on-the-job technical R&D training during the first month of joining your team.
