Xcel Energy is hiring an Engineering Intern to join our Substation Communications department in downtown Denver, CO.

The position is full-time in the summer (40 hours/week), with the potential for continuation for part-time work during the student’s fall and spring semesters (8-14 hours/week).

Position Summary

Substation Communication Engineering is responsible for the critical task of making sure our control centers are able to securely monitor and operate the power system (SCADA), relaying/teleprotection support, substation cyber-security, and operations network architecture/planning.

The ideal student will be able to start part-time as soon as possible with the availability to work full-time during the summer. We will be able to work around class schedules during the semesters. This internship is open for Sophomore through Graduate Students. Majors considered are: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering.


Minimum Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate ABET accredited engineering program
  • Majoring in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • A current Sophomore or above
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally
  • Must be self- motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, and ability to work well with others
  • An interest power systems or industrial control systems is desirable.

Non-BargainingThe anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.70 to $30.10 per hourThis position may also be eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays, Personal holidays
