Position Summary
This position is an Engineering Internship designed to support the Gas Standards department. The internship will assist Xcel Energy engineers in the following tasks: development of design and construction specifications for pipelines and facilities; faulty material investigation and analysis; investigation of new materials or tools; investigation and development of operations and maintenance standards; additional duties as assigned.
Interns will be given the opportunity to explore additional areas of interest in the natural gas engineering while being part of the Gas Standards team.
This is a paid position and expected to start during the 2024 Spring semester and last 3 months during the summer of 2024. There is a potential to continue part-time into the fall and 2024 spring school year. During the summer the intern is expected to work 40 hours/week and ideally 15-20 hours/week during the school year.
Essential Responsibilities

a) Create and review specifications for company design and construction standards

b) Review new material requests and investigate for use

c) Analyze failed materials to determine root cause of failure

d) Revise and add language to the Gas Standards Manual

e) Utilize subject matter experts (as appropriate) to solicit input and develop solutions for Gas Standards

Minimum Requirements
Ability to commute to primary work location is required.
Must be at minimum a sophomore enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university engineering program pursuing a degree in mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering. Recent graduates are not eligible, unless pursuing graduate education.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Windows 10 Operating System
Preferred Requirements
Knowledge of HTML basics
Relevant Project Experience
Prior Intern/Engineering Experience
Engineer In Training Certification or successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
