Position Summary

Responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and administering property and liability insurance and risk management programs for Xcel Energy and its subsidiaries. Provide professional expertise in developing and implementing property and liability insurance and risk management programs. Manage the Company's property loss control program. Lead insurance claims process for all first party claims, including the negotiation and settlement of claims with the Company's property insurance companies. Review third party contracts with vendors/suppliers to ensure compliance with insurance, indemnification and certificate requirements. Represent Xcel Energy at Insurance industry events.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage technical loss control support to develop corporate standards and ensure compliance with regulatory codes and insurance policies. Provide guidance to business operations in developing action plans and priorities to correct non-compliance and reduce exposure (e.g., capital budgets) to preventable loss situations. Resolve conflicts between recommendations, corporate goals, and available resources.

  • Manage the preparation of insurance placement specifications and applications for insurance and loss control servicing programs and negotiate optimum terms and conditions. This includes the gathering of exposure and risk profile information including statistics such as property values, employee headcount and loss history.

  • Develop relationships with and direct activities of insurance carriers, brokers, and adjusters. Negotiate cost effective settlement of all first party insurance claims and coordinate liability claims with legal department.

  • Analyze third party contracts with vendors/suppliers to assure compliance with insurance, indemnification and certificate requirements.

  • Ensure authorization to access nuclear facilities is maintained. Enter nuclear facilities to provide risk management support, as required.

  • Ensure professional expertise is up to date. Attend professional development conferences/seminars and maintain professional certifications, as required.


Minimum Requirements

-Bachelors degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Accounting/Finance or combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.

-Minimum of 10 years experience in some combination of the following or other relevant areas: risk and insurance program management, claims management, and/or placement of large insurance programs.

-Knowledge of nuclear plant operations.

-In-depth knowledge of liability and property insurance options required.

-Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal regulations/statutes, which include but are not limited to Price Anderson Act, Workers Compensation, Automobile Liability, etc.

-May require overnight travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

- ARM/CPCU certification or equivalent knowledge preferred, may require completion of NRC required exams after hire, strong negotiation skills.
