The School/Academic Department: The School/Academic Department: The Department of Computer Science and Cybersecurity (CSC) is currently the second largest department at Metro State. CSC’s students can choose from four undergraduate majors: Cybersecurity (an NSA-validated Program of Study), Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, and Computer Forensics. The department also offers graduate programs including Master of Science (MS) in Cyber Operations, MS and Professional Master of Science (PSM) in Computer Science, and a combined BS+MS degree in Cyber Operations. In addition, the CSC department serves students from the Data Science major administered by the Mathematics and Statistics Department. With Cybersecurity as a validated program of study, Metro State is also designated as the National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (NCAE-CD) institution. GradReports ranked the Computer Science and Cybersecurity Department #9 in the nation in 2020 in order of highest median salary one year after graduation for students with Information Technology baccalaureates. Additionally, per the US Department of Education Metropolitan State was #35 in the US in the number of African American graduates from undergraduate programs in Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services in 2021-2022. Located at Metro State’s main St. Paul campus, the Department currently houses 10 tenured or tenure-track faculty. In a typical academic year, a full-time faculty member teaches five courses (undergraduate and/or graduate), split between two semesters. In addition, the faculty member will supervise graduate research projects, engage in scholarship, advising, and service.
The department enjoys multiple grants from NSF, NSA, MN State, and the private sector for performing innovative and applied research on cybersecurity, computer science, and forensics. The department is the home of MN Cyber, a statewide institute for research and training in cybersecurity, forensics, and IoT. MN Cyber Academy provides training for industry related certifications. MN Cyber Range, a first in Minnesota, is a military grade Cyber Range for providing advanced training and conducting research in Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) Security. Please note: Filling of these positions is dependent upon budget.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement. Employment for this position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) which can be found at on the Minnesota State Employee and Labor Relations website.
