Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced professional level employee to serve as the Sanitation Supervisor at the General Mills Geneva, IL plant. The Sanitation Supervisor will provide technical support in design, implementation, and compliance with GMI and 3rd party food safety, sanitation, and quality requirements, and resolve issues through risk assessment and corrective actions. The Sanitation supervisor acts as the lead in plant sanitation activities.

 

The Geneva, IL Plant is our newest addition to our North America plant network. To increase capacity and keep pace with the growing consumer demand for the products, General Mills is making a significant investment to expand capacity for our beloved Fruit brands (Gusher and Fruit by the Foot). We will continue making Betty Crocker desserts at the plant as we transition operational ownership from our external supply chain to General Mills in early 2024. After integration of the current workforce, and startup of Fruit, the plant will have 350-400 employees and be just under 500,000 sq ft of production and warehouse space.

 

The Sanitation Supervisor will work closely with the operations team to provide quality, food safety, regulatory, and sanitation leadership to deliver excellence in consumer safety and satisfaction. The Sanitation Supervisor must lead, motivate, and train employees to drive losses out of our systems to achieve production results while ensuring compliance with quality, food safety, and regulatory requirements.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Commitment to human safety and the ability to clearly articulate necessary steps in written programs to ensure employees stay safe
  • Provide functional leadership and strong ability to influence others to support plant and department objectives
  • Provide sanitation expertise and leadership to meet GMI, regulatory, and 3rd party policy and standard requirements
  • Lead Integrated Pest Management Program and analyze the data to address day-to-day challenges and build and execute long term strategic IPM plans
  • Manage the 3rd party Pest Control Operator; provide guidance, feedback, assess, and implement recommendations, corrections, and corrective actions
  • Manage relationship with chemical supplier to maintain inventories, approve annual contract, equipment management and annual sanitation verifications
  • Coordinate and document all sanitation validations
  • Manage plant sanitation and operating supplies budget related to sanitation activities;
  • Understands how to identify soils, is familiar with cleaning chemistry and applications, and knows how to utilize proper sanitation methods in different applications (wet, dry, foaming, CIP/ACS)
  • Leader of the following programs and provides effective training across the site in sanitation (includes MSS, SSOPs, allergen cleans, validations, verifications), Integrated Pest Management, environmental monitoring, chemical safety, glass and brittle plastic, and other key food safety training to plant personnel
  • Participates in FSRA program across the site working cross-functionally
  • Recognize existing gaps and drive sanitary design improvements for plant projects and actively participate in planning meetings
  • Serve as a food safety and sanitation consultant for engineering/maintenance/utilities projects
  • Provide technical expertise to drive to root cause of issues and develop corrective actions
  • Responsible for developing downtime plans for critical sanitation tasks and partnering with Operations, Logistics, Utilities, Engineering, and Maintenance to achieve maximum downtime results
  • Subject Matter Expert in Sanitation at the plant and able to collaborate with corporate and sister plant resources
  • Provide supervision, coaching, support, and capability building to sanitation specialists
  • Supports Food Safety Management System through participation on the Food Safety Team and Internal Audit Team
  • Provide functional leadership to support plant and department objectives
  • Provide human safety/hazcom trainings to sanitation contractors prior to accessing site

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 - 4 years of related experience
  • Ability to interpret various food safety standards and implement programs and process to meet the intent of the standard

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICTIONS

  • Food science, engineering, or other bachelor's of science degree
  • HACCP and PCQI certification
  • SQF, BRC, IFS or FSSC 22000 training/certification
  • Bias for action and consistently delivering strong results
  • Demonstrated leadership, influence, and initiative across multiple levels of an organization
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability of advancing initiatives independently
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize activities effectively to meet timelines
  • Motivation to lead multiple aspects of Sanitation Programs and Food Safety Programs
  • Demonstrated ability to write programs in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong risk assessment skills
  • Ability to be flexible with work hours, shifting priorities, and ambiguity
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and 3rd party policy and standard requirements
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Maximo, SAP
  • Understanding of product quality, sensory, sanitation, and food safety requirements
  • Flexibility and motivation to cover all areas of FSQ and able to create innovative solutions to problems with limited resources
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, ability to apply engineering principles, and ability to troubleshoot

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $67300.00 - $101200.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifictions, etc. As such, pay for the succesful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
